i disconnected my new CD-RW and it moved right past this and hung on Configuring Network with 35 minutes remaining.. do you think the media is bad? Spinning fast, slowing down, spinning fast...etc. I noticed a couple of the issues the setup is having with installation is with things labeled VIA whereas my mobo is now using an Nvida Nforce chipset… any other ideas I have a new VAIO laptop that cam pre installed with VISTA.

My harddrives are getting plenty of air flow too. To do this, press SHIFT+F10 to open a command prompt after the first restart, and after any subsequent restarts, if Setup stops responding. Using this method now.. I removed the PCI card and voila, the install got past the 35 min.
Had the same problem, then I remembered that I recently had a PCI video card installed for a second monitor (my first one is AGP).
